On getting extra support from K Chittilappilly Foundation, the housing construction under PMAY Special Project at Maradu Municipality is progressing at fast pace. Kudumbashree Mission had converged with K Chittilappilly Foundation for the housing project at Maradu Municipality. A total of 446 beneficiaries have been sanctioned, out of which 325  were found eligible and agreement has been executed with 214. The construction of 172 has already been started and 66 has been completed.

As per the PMAY project at Maradu Municipality, a total of 1596 had been identified in various verticals. 702 beneficiaries had been identified in Affordable housing vertical. A total of 448 has been identified under Credit Linked Subsidy and 446 under  Beneficiary Lead Construction (New House).

As per the collaboration with  K Chittilappilly Foundation, 40 houses were selected at the first phase. Rs.50000 each would be given to beneficiary's accounts in two installments. The selection of the beneficiaries  was done by PMAY officials of Maradu Municipality and the officials from KCF visited the houses and shortlisted for the support.The houses which completed roof level were selected for support. Efforts have been taken to select beneficiaries from all wards and the most deserving beneficiaries were considered.

K Chittilappilly foundation (KCF) is an initiative by Shri. Kochouseph Chittilappilly with the prime objective of undertaking public charitable activities in India in a corporate level without any discrimination as to religion, caste, creed or gender.  A total of 100 houses are being supported by K Chittilappilly Foundation. Kudumbashree Mission is the nodal agency of Pradhan Manthri Awas Yojana (PMAY) Programme under Central- State Ministries working with the mission of achieving 'Housing for All'.

Three day training for Kudumbashree Animators of Attappady has been started. Shri. S.Harikishore, Executive Director, Kudumbashree Mission inaugurated the training programme at Agriculture Co-operative Training Institute, Manvila, Thiruvananthapuram on 17 September 2018. To make the community kitchens more active, to ensure consistent income for  atleast  3 persons of every  hamlet,  to start construction units, to start the MGNREGS programme at the earliest which ensures wages in advance, to make the Kudumbashree Mission Programme being  implemented in Attappady more active, to  systematically review the programmes etc were the suggestions put forward by Executive Director during his inaugural speech. Classes on self confidence, self realisation, leadership were also extended  during the programme. Classes on organization, social development, micro finance etc were also extend during the programme.  The animators also visited Joint  Liability Groups ( JLG), goat village, IT units, buds institutions as well. The training would come to an end on 19 September 2018.

Harithakarmasena of Koyilandy is active in making the Koyilandy  ULB neat and  clean.  It is as  part of  the 'Clean & Green' programme of Koyilandy ULB that  the Harithakarmasena members took  charge of collecting and segregating the waste from Koyilandy ULB. Shri. K.Sathyan, Chairman, Koyilandy  ULB inaugurated the distribution of the uniform, gum  boots, masks and gloves to the Harithakarmasena members recently.

The non biodegradable wastes were segregated and were  handed over to some agencies. Recently a shredding  unit was set up at Kunnoth, Koyilandy for shredding the non biodegradable wastes.

The  Harithakarmasena  at Koyilandy was launched during 2017.  The team consists of 88  members from 44  wards in Koyilandy ULB  and  12 members of Dhanashree which altogether makes 100 members. 88 of them collects wastes from their respective wards and the other 12 collects waste from the shops. The  team had earned an amount  of Rs 2.25 lakhs out of their waste management task, out of  which Rs 55,000 was paid as vehicle rent and  the rest was divided within themselves.

An amount of Rs.50 is being collected from the households and receipts are being given regarding the same.The Harithakarmasena members were active in flood  relief activities as well.

Pathanamthitta District was badly affected during the flood from 16th Aug 2018. The major rivers in Pathanamthitta overflew during the time and about 57,600 families were directly affected. Most of the family vacated from their house to escape from heavy flood water. After the rescue and relief, rehabilitation was the main challenge of the District Administration. Most of the houses filled with water and sedimentary mud oozed through the flood. Cleaning process was very herculean task because of the deposition of mud. To help the families, Kudumbashree District Mission conducted a campaign. Initially Pulikeezhu block, the worst affected area had been selected for the campaign for cleaning. A total of 6757 women from Kudumbashree neighbourhood group were mobilised to take up massive cleaning campaign at Pulikeezhu block on 28.08.2018. The ultimate aim was to clean all the houses within two days by giving priority to partialized and financially weaker families. Though 4000 volunteers were aimed, 6757 volunteers took part in the process. The process proceeded with the support of other department, LSGs and District Administration.

NHG members from non affected and less affected area/CDS were deputed to carry out the cleaning drive in the most affected area. On the first day , NHG members from 15 panchayaths and three municipalities namely Kalanjoor, Nedumpuram, Erathu, Enadhimangalam, Kodumon, Ezhamkulam, Kadambanadu, Palllickal, Pandalam, Peringara, Kuttoor, Konni, Omalloor, Anicadu, Kottangal panchayaths and Pathanamthitta,Adoor & Thiruvalla Municipality were mobilized to clean houses,public spaces,streets and premises at Peringara, Niranam, Nedumpuram, Kuttoor and Kadapra panchayaths and the most affected places of Thiruvalla municipality.

All the volunteers arrived at 9AM at the respective panchayaths in Pulikeezhu block and from there they have been divided into groups under the leadership of Kudumbashree District Mission team members and their respective leaders. All the teams were then shifted to pre decided different areas in the panchayath with the help of ward members/CDS members of the affected area. Each team was equipped with spade, showel, bucket, mug, bleaching powder, cleaning lotion, Dettol, mops, brooms etc. They have been provided mask, preventive medicine, gloves and gum boot to ensure the precaution. They have also been provided food and water.

The preliminary cleaning process completed at 5 PM on the day and will be repeated on request from the affected with the help of NHG members from local and adjacent panchayaths.

Kudumbashree employees engaged in active cleaning campaign post Kerala floods. The NULM team of Kudumbashree Mission put their soul in cleaning the flood stricken areas of North Paravoor at Ernakulam District.  The  urban team cleaned the premetric hostel at  North Paravoor.

The unprecedented rain has paved for heavy floods and the calamity has caused immeasurable misery and devastation. Many lives were lost during the floods. Thousands of homes were totally destroyed and many more were damaged. Never before had the State witnessed a calamity in such a large scale. In the fight against the flood, we have braved the odds. Kudumbashree believes that it is our duty to help the affected rebuild their lives and  can make a difference by joining in the rebuilding efforts. The  District Missions and CDSs are also  actively engaged in the rehabilitation activities.

Kudumbashree State Mission contributed generously to the flood relief camps to help the flood hit people of Kerala. Using the collected amount from the State Mission, necessary items like drinking water, sanitary napkins, diapers, clothes, soaps, tooth pastes, tooth brushes, towels, candles, bed sheets, antiseptic lotion, medicine etc were bought and handed over to the concerned. Food kits are also arranged and are being sent to the needy. As Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) had offered free transportation, the packages are transported through KSRTC buses, which announced free transportation of relief materials. Kudumbashree Mission's Arogyasena had reached out to the flood prone areas of Kuttanad during the first phase of the flood at Kuttanad . It was for preventing the spread of epidemics that Kudumbashree's Arogyasena made the timely intervention at Kuttanad. Apart from this, the financial contribution of all the staff would be contributed to Chief Minister's Distress Relief Fund, the emergency assistance release mechanism granting immediate relief to families and individuals distressed by calamity, loss of life due to accidents and chronic diseases. The officials from Kudumbashree State Mission had actively involved in the relief camp collection centres as well.

Women hostels run by Kudumbashree women are being a boon to many. In addition to the four women hostels functioning in Kozhikode, two hostels were launched at Thrissur and Tirurangadi recently. Adithi Homes is opened at Porkalam near Thrissur and Laya Vanitha Hostel is opened in Tirurangadi. The Hostel opened in Thrissur could accommodate 20 to 25 persons. The hostel is functioning under the leadership of Porkulam Ward 8 CDS. Smt. Beena Baburaj, Smt. Fathima Khalid, Smt. Nazla Khalid are the women behind the venture. The Laya Vanitha Hostel opened at Tirurangadi can accomodate upto 12 women. The hostel at Tirurangadi is set up with the help of the centrally designed programme National Urban Livelihoods Mission (NULM).

The hostels run by Kudumbashree CDS are of high demand in Kozhikode city. Located at Francis road, near fourth platform of Kozhikode Railway station, the 'Rail view' women's hostel which have 33 rooms, including single, double and triple rooms provide the state of the art facilities like free WiFi, CCTV, recreation club, library and reading room, laundry, conference hall, counselling centre etc. The all-women management which provide online booking facility, has also made arrangements to accommodate women working on late night shifts. The counselling centre at the hostel which provide free counselling for women and children and the 'Railway tasty corner' food court which serve tasty food are also accessible to the public as well. Rail view is the fourth hostel started by Kudumbashree CDS. Smt. P.P Sheeja and Smt. V. Pushpalatha, Smt. Savithri, officer bearers of Kozhikode Corporation Kudumbashree CDS North are in charge if the the 'Railview' Hostel.

The first in the series, 'Feminara' Womens Hostel was started at Gujarathi street in 2014, which was an instant hit. Following its success, 'Fly Sky' Hostel and 'She Homes' Hostel were started at Govindapuram and Parayancheri respectively. The demand for women's hostels rise during entrance examinations and other tests. The hostels provide all the modern facilities for a comfortable stay in affordable price, had became a second home for its inhabitants. Kudumbashree Hostels are being boon to many women who are staying away from their homes!

A group of 11 students from Keio University of Japan visited Kudumbashree to study about the poverty alleviation activities being implemented by Kudumbashree Mission in Kerala. The students visited a Neighbourhood Group at Karakulam Panchayath, interacted with them, attended class room sessions on Kudumbashree three tier system, micro finance activities, livelihoods etc. They also visited the Panchayath office, interacted the Local Self Government members and officials and also visited CDS offices and micro enterprise units.

The 11 member team from Keio University of Japan include George Araki, Eisuke Nasuno, Kenichiro Kimura, Shintaro Iwai, Shiori Tanaka, Shizuki Kanda, Shoko Shimane, Taiga Koen, Umeyama Kan, Yuki Aibe and Yuki Inoue. They belong to a study group which focuses on development studies, who are undergoing an undergraduate programme in Economics at Keio University. It is as part of their short field trip to learn about the developing countries that they visited Kudumbashree Mission. Their study would focus on how Kudumbashree Mission's micro finance activities help the poor people in abolishing poverty. Keio is a private university, known as the oldest institute of modern higher education in Japan located in Tokyo

Giving boost to diagnostic facilities, Kudumbashree Mission launched a Medical Lab at Parappanangadi, Malappuram. Named as 'Alpha Medical Lab', the lab is set up with the help of the centrally designed programme National Urban Livelihoods Mission (NULM). It has started functioning during February 2018. The Alpha Medical Lab is launched under the leadership of Smt. Shilpi, Lab technician who has experience of 15 years in this sector. It is under the Self Employment Programme (SEP) Component of NULM that Alpha Medical lab is launched. Kudumbashree Mission is the nodal agency for implementing the centrally designed programme, National Urban Livelihoods Mission (NULM) in Kerala.

Self Employment Programme Component of NULM focus on financial assistance to individuals/groups of urban poor for setting up gainful self-employment ventures/ micro-enterprises, suited to their skills, training, aptitude and local conditions. The medical lab carries out all tests including hormone culture tests, diabetes check up, cholesterol tests, thyroid tests, all other blood tests and other blood tests and other health packages. The total cost of the project cost Rs 10 lakhs. The lab posses all modern facilities. This is the story of a woman who turned her strengths into livelihood with the help of Kudumbashree Mission.

A two member group under National Urban Livelihoods Mission (NULM) has recently started cut vegetable unit in Kochi Corporation. The unit markets the product labelled as 'Fresh Vegetables'. Cut vegetables for Avial, Sambar, Thoran etc are cleaned, cut and hygienically packed and are being sold. Peeled garlic and small onion are also sold in this manner. The unit also used to sell jack fruit and jack fruit seeds during its season.The cut vegetable unit was inaugurated by Smt. Soumini Jain, Mayor Kochi Municipal Corporation on 9 July 2018. Smt. Jensy Saji and Smt. Omana Johny are the women behind the ' Fresh Vegetables' cut vegetable unit.

The unit is selling their product in LULU Mall Hypermarket and Centre Sqaure Mall at Ernakulam. Half kilogram of cut vegetables cost Rs 50. More than 100 boxes are sold on Saturdays and Sundays and more than 80 boxes are being sold during other working days. The unit also sells cut fruits and grated coconut at Centre Square Mall, Ernakulam. The unit uses garlic peelers, driers, wash tubs and cutting tables for cutting the vegetables. The unit is also intending to start a shop for the purpose.
