The publication of Panchayat Raj magazine in Malayalam was started from August 1961 after the central government had suggested that local editions of the Panchayat Raj magazine published in the local language should be published during the Third Five Year Plan period. When strong panchayat administration started in Kerala, Panchayat Raj magazine became a part of panchayat administration. The magazine mainly publishes authoritative and up-to-date articles, studies, features, development reports, news and explanations on rules, regulations and guidelines on village administration. This magazine is helpful in creating more awareness about panchayat administration among panchayat samitis, officials and general public. This magazine gives impetus to effective implementation of rural development activities and welfare activities. Panchayat Raj is made available to all people's representatives, secretaries of local bodies and officials related to the department in Kerala.
The Panchayat Department has stopped the publication of the magazine 'Panchayat Raj', which was published by the Panchayat Department in the event that the five departments under the Local Self-Government Department were merged to form the Unified Local Self-Government Department. The new magazine will be published under the auspices of the Unified Local Self-Government Department
