Kudumbashree Wayanad District Mission launches 'Manjalu Gramam' at Thirunelly

Kudumbashree Wayanad District Mission launched 'Manjalu Gramam' (Turmeric Village) at Thirunelly. Kudumbashree is giving new life to Kerala's own Wayanad Turmeric, which is in high demand in the world market, through Thirunelly Tribal Comprehensive Project. The 'Manjalu Gramam' project is being implemented in Thirunelly Panchayat under the leadership of Kudumbashree Wayanad District Mission with the aim of providing an income source for the tribal women of the region. The project is being implemented under the auspices of Thirunelly Vandan Vikas Kendra, Thirunelly Tribal Comprehensive Development Project and Thirunelly Panchayath Kudumbashree CDS. As part of the project, turmeric will be cultivated in at least one acre of land in every ward of the panchayath. Thus Wayanad Turmeric cultivation is ensured in 15 acres of land.

Kudumbashree Malappuram District Mission launches 'Hridya' Programme for the Palliative Care of Bedridden Patients

Kudumbashree Malappuram District Mission launches 'Hridya' Programme for Palliative Care of Bedridden Patients. The project has been initiated to train 30,000 women in the district in palliative care for extending specialized medical care for people with serious illnesses like cancer and heart diseases. The project is being implemented under the name 'Hridya' in association with Malappuram Pain and Palliative Care.

The aim of the project is to enable at least one person in every household to provide palliative care and thereby impart psychological and physical support to a good percentage of bedridden people. As part of the implementation of the Hridya Programme, a workshop was organized on 2 June 2023 for Kudumbashree CDS Chairpersons, Social Development Sub-Committee Conveners, Community Counsellors, Block Coordinators and Snehitha staff.

In the first phase, palliative care training is imparted to three Resource Persons selected from all CDSs. The training is in a two month long certified course which is a combination of theory and practical classes. Those who are trained in this way will train the NHG team members in basic palliative care at CDS level.

 

Through the project, the district also aims to form a team of volunteers who provide palliative care. The approval of the District Planning Committee has also been received to implement the project with the cooperation of Local Self Government Institutions. Women members of Kudumbashree and those from the transgender community have the opportunity to receive training.  Through this programme, Kudumbashree Malappuram District Mission made a remarkable intervention in the field of palliative care.

BUDS School Students of Thirunelly comes up with a thought provoking gesture on Environment Day

The BUDS School Students of Thirunelly of Wayanad District of Kerala came up with a thought provoking gesture on Environment Day.  The 'buds' of Paradise Special School of Thirunelly have celebrated the first birthday of the five trees they planted during the Environment Day of 2022. They have proved that not only planting a sapling on Environment Day but also taking proper care of it and growing it into a tree and enjoying the shade of that tree is a different experience.

The celebration was marked by cutting a cake with the words 'First Birthday of the Shade Tree'. Shri. P. V Balakrishnan Balakrishnan President, Thirunelly Panchayath cut the cake and distributed it to the BUDS students. 38 students are studying in this school. 75 percent of these children are from Scheduled Tribes Community. The school has two teachers and assistants each. Agri Therapy Scheme is also being implemented in the school in a good way. This year alone, the smart people here have harvested 180 kg of tomatoes, 78 kg of eggplant, one and a half loads of spinach, 46 kg of green chillies, along with cauliflower and cabbage. Tapioca, banana, pumpkin and ash gourd have also been cultivated.

Kudumbashree Kasaragod District comes up with 'One House One Agricultural Tool' Programme

Kudumbashree Kasaragod District Mission has come up with an innovative scheme to fully support the farmers of Kasaragod district. The district is implementing 'One House One Agriculture Tool' scheme in association with the Kasaragod District Panchayath. This project is being implemented with the aim of promoting and spreading agriculture in the district. The objectives of the project are to provide necessary agricultural equipments to the farmers and to provide technical support for the same and to promote scientific farming methods. Strengthening of Farmer Facilitation Center or FFC under CDS is also a target.

So far, four tractors have been made available through the project. Tractors were given to Kudumbashree Pavizham Farming Group (Joint Liability Group) of Muliyar Panchayath, Cheruvathoor Panchayath CDS and Team Bedakam Agro Producer Company. These activities are part of the Sub-Mission on Agricultural Mechanization (SMAM) project. Kudumbashree carries out activities including locating beneficiaries, helping them with online registration and support in obtaining subsidy and extending them support. District Panchayath provides subsidy to consumers who are not getting subsidy through this scheme. So far Rs 40 lakhs have been made available in this way.

 

Harvesting machine, seedling planting machine, medicine spraying drone etc. will also be made available. Training will also be provided to understand the technology of these machines. As part of this, drone training will be given to ten women members of Kudumbashree by the end of August.

8th Anniversary of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) Scheme celebrated

As part of the 8th Anniversary of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) Scheme on June 25 , a interaction and home visit was organized with the beneficiary families. The house visit was conducted by a team comprising of Urban Local Body Representatives and PMAY - LIFE officials.
 
Kudumbashree is the nodal agency for implementing the project in Kerala. In Kerala, PMAY (Urban) is being implemented in convergence with the LIFE scheme.
 
Through this scheme, which is being implemented in all 93 Urban Local Bodies of Kerala, so far it have been able to obtain permission to construct houses for 1,30,731 beneficiaries. Construction of 1,07,669 houses have been started and construction of 80,900 houses have been completed. Permission has been obtained for 970 house units in 11 Apartment Complexes for the landless homeless people. Construction of 938 units ha e been started out of which 360 have been completed.

National Workshop on 'Innovative Approaches Towards Urban Poverty Alleviation'- Technical Sessions in specific focus areas throws light on the successful approaches & models

In order to streamline the presentations, in specific focus areas, five themes have been identified where the States/ Union Territories presented their successful approaches and models in the National Workshop on 'Innovative Approaches Towards Urban Poverty Alleviation'. On the first day of the Workshop, Thematic presentations were held on topics such as Infrastructure Development - Building a Path to Prosperity, Fostering Inclusive Urban Livelihoods: Building Bridges for All, Empowering Livelihoods through Technology. The States / Union Territories also shared the challenges they had faced during the implementation phase and how they overcame the same.
 
Ms. Jeenal Sawla, Principal Advisory, Smart City Mission, NIUA moderated the first Technical Session- Infrastructure Development - Building a Path to Prosperity. State Mission Director, Karnataka, State Mission Director, Himachal Pradesh, State Mission Director, Mizoram, State Mission Director, Madhya Pradesh and Mr. Benny Peters, Centre for Migration and Inclusive Development (CMID) were the panelists of the session.
 
Dr Madhu Rani Teotia, Director, DAY- NULM was the moderator of the second Technical Session Fostering Inclusive Urban Livelihoods: Building Bridges for All. The panelists of the session included Ms. Amruta, Lighthouse Community, Pune, Ms. Meghana Malhotra, Deputy Director, UMC, and Shri. Jahamgeer. S, Programme Officer (Urban), Kudumbashree.
 

Ms. Shalini Pandey, Director, PM SVANidhi moderated the third Technical Session-Empowering Livelihoods through Technology. Shri M. Sreevatsan, General Manager, NSIC, Ms. Panchami Choudhury, State Mission Director, Assam, Ms. B Priyanka, State Mission Director, Tamil Nadu and Ms. V Vijaya Lakshmi, State Mission Director, Andhra Pradesh were the panelists of the session.

 

On the last day of the National Workshop on 'Innovative Approach Towards Urban Poverty Alleviation', two Technical Sessions were held on 'International Best Practices in Urban Poverty Reduction' and 'Convergence for Inclusive Urban Livelihoods'.

Shri. Rahul Kapoor, Joint Secretary & Mission Director, DAY-NULM  moderated the first Technical Session- 'International Best Practices in Urban Poverty Reduction'. Dr. Ravi Chandra, Livelihoods & Value Chain Specialist, UNDP, Shri. Abhishek Anand, Partner, MicroSave, Ms. Manvita Baradi, Director, Urban Management Centre (UMC), Ms, Sanskriti Shree, Centre for Civil Society and Dr Monish Jose, Assistant Professor, Kerala Institute of Local Administration (KILA) were the panelists of the session.

Dr. Sharmila Mary Joseph, Principal Secretary, Local Self Government Department, Government of Kerala was the moderator of the Technical Session-'Convergence for Inclusive Livelihoods'. The panelists of the session included Ms. Prakriti Mehtha, Deputy Advisor, Quality Council of India(QCI), Ms. Panchami Choudhury, State Mission Director, Assam, Ms, Amruta, Lighthouse Community, Pune, Ms. Meghna Malhotra, Deputy Director, UMC and Shri. Kudumbashree Art Festival- 'Arangu 2023' held at Thrissur makes a bang

Arangu 2023' Kudumbashree State Arts Festival held at Thrissur during 2-4 June 2023 made a bang, showcasing the inherent talents of Kudumbashree Women. Kasaragod District came in the First Place with 172 points. Kozhikode and Kannur districts came in the second and third place with 136 and 131 points respectively.  Shri. K Radhakrishnan, Minister for Welfare of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Backward Classes and Devaswoms, Government of Kerala and  Dr. R Bindu, Minister for Higher Education and Social Justice, Government of Kerala gave away the awards to the winners. Kasaragod district has bagged the overall championship in Arangu Kudumbashree State Arts Festival for the fourth time in a row. Thrissur District, which hosted the festival came in the Fourth Place with 109 points. 

 
Shri. K Radhakrishnan, Minister for Welfare of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Backward Classes and Devaswoms, Government of Kerala inaugurated the valedictory function at Indoor Stadium, Thrissur on 4 June 2023. The Minister said that Arangu, Kudumbashree State Arts Festival can catch up with the State School Youth Festival, one of the biggest youth festivals in Asia, if Arangu 2023 is going forward in this pace. It is a matter of happiness that women are entering all arenas of the society.  The Minister said. He also added that he is one among the persons who attended the launch of Kudumbashree Mission, way back in 1998. Now we have came much forward from that point and reached till here. He also said that Kudumbashree has greater influence in the achievements of Kerala state. He appreciated all the Kudumbashree members who participated in Arangu 2023 Kudumbashree State Arts Festival. He also reminded that only if  there are losers, there will be winners. 
 
Dr. R Bindu, Minister for Higher Education and Social Justice, Government of Kerala presided over the  valedictory function. Kudumbashree is acting as the mirror of self realization in the women society for the last 25 years. Shri. C. P Aboobacker, Secretary, Kerala Sahithya Academy and Shri. Karivellur Murali, Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi were the Chief Guests of the valedictory function.

Ratheesh Kumar K, Programme Officer, Kudumbashree delivered the vote of thanks. Shri. P. K Shajan, Chairman, Health Standing Committee, Thrissur Corporation, Shri. P. K Davis Master, President, District Panchayath, Thrissur, Ms. Latha Chandran, Vice President, Thrissur District Panchayath, Shri. S. C Nirmal, Assistant District Mission Coordinator, Kudumbashree Thrissur District Mission and Chairpersons of Ollukkara Puzhakkal Block also attended the valedictory function. 
 
The three day Arts Festival took place at the 9 venues named Muhammed Abdurahiman Nagar (Indoor Stadium, Thrissur), K.P. A. C Lalitha Hall, (Sangeetha Nataka Academy, Thrissur), Kalabhavan Mani Nagar (Bharath Murali Theatre, Sangeetha Nataka Academy, Thrissur), Parukutty Nethyar Amma Nagar (Ground Floor, Jawahar Balabhavan, Thrissur), Dr Paulose Mar Paulose Nagar (First Floor, Jawahar Balabhavan, Thrissur), Innocent Nagar (YWCA Hall, Thrissur), C.N Karunakaran Hall (Chithrakala Hall, Jawahar Balabhavan, Thrissur), Changampuzha Hall (Kerala Sahithya Academy, Thrissur) and Yousuf Ali Kecheri Nagar (Sahithya Academy Auditorium, Thrissur).  Awards for Pazhayannoor  Block, Anthikad Block and Chowannur Block, Vellangaloor Blocks who came in first, second and third places in the Procession held prior to Arangu 2023 was given away at the valedictory function. Around 3000 women took part in 66 competition items in Junior, Senior and General categories. 
 
Arangu 2023 was kickstarted when Shri. M. B Rajesh, Minister, Local Self Government Department, Government of Kerala inaugurated the festival at Indoor Stadium, Thrissur on 2 June 2023. The Minister said that the Arangu Arts Festival 2023 after the crisis of covid-19 was organized with more enthusiasm and participation. This Arts Festival named as 'Arangu' itself is appropriate and significant for Kudumbashree, as Kudumbashree is the movement that  brought lakhs of women to the real stage of life. So the name Arangu is not just a name for Kudumbashree and this name itself represents the efforts and interventions of Kudumbashree for the last 25 years.
 
Kudumbashree has made the play written by V.T Bhattathiripad come true by bringing women to the mainstream of the society. Kudumbashree had made great contributions to  complete the social reformation movement of Kerala. The President of India had joined Kudumbashree during its Silver Jubilee Celebrations and the comment made by the President about Kudumbashree brings immense pride not only to every Kudumbashree member but also to all Keralites. Kudumbashree had created non forgettable impressions in the history of Kerala. We can divide Kerala history into two halves, 'Before Kudumbashree and After Kudumbashree'. Kudumbashree has realized 'women empowerment' in comprehensive and subtle ways. Through Arangu Kudumbashree is empowering women culturally. Kudumbashree is the movement that the whole world looks forward to. The Minister said.

Arangu is not considered as a way to showcase their talents but also an opportunity for enterprise and turn the same into a source of livelihood.  Kudumbashree had helped the government in identifying the extreme poor in the state within no time. Kudumbashree is dealing with the facility management services of the first water metro in the country. Kudumbashree had made significant impressions in the movement. The Minister added.

 
Adv. K Rajan, Minister for Revenue and Housing, Government of Kerala presided over the inaugural function. He said that Kudumbashree is the Kerala model put forward by Kerala for women empowerment. Ms. Imthias Beegam, Gazal Singer was the Chief Guest of the inaugural  function. Shri. A. C Moideen, MLA and Former Minister gave away the Award for the Best Logo. Shri Murali Perunelly, MLA, Shri. Xavier Chittilappally MLA and other dignitaries took part in the programme. Shri. Ratheesh Kumar K, Programme Officer, Kudumbashree explained the programme. Shri. P. Guruvayoor Urban Livelihood Centre makes great intervention by providing 103 Kudumbashree members with livelihood opportunity

The Guruvayoor Municipality has set an example by integrating well with Kudumbashree in Guruvayoor, one of the major pilgrimage centres in Kerala. Guruvayoor Urban Livelihood Centre makes great intervention by providing 103 Kudumbashree members with livelihood opportunity. Under the National Urban Livelihood Mission (NULM) implemented by Kudumbashree in Kerala, a Tourist Facilitation Centre has been started and a total of 103 Kudumbashree women have been provided with livelihood opportunities. Urban Livelihood Centres aim to create more employment opportunities in urban areas and help the urban poor earn a livelihood.
 
Based on the excellent performance of the Kudumbashree Urban Livelihood Centre, which is operating at Amenity Centre on the west side of the Guruvayoor Temple from November 2022, the Municipal Council has entrusted Kudumbashree with the management of the Tourist Facilitation Centre set on three floors with state-of-the-art systems. 50 Kudumbashree members have been provided employment through this Facilitation Centre in various fields such as Manager, Assistant Manager, Accountant, Receptionist, Housekeeping Staff and Food Court Staff. This Facilitation Centre has Kudumbashree's First Air Conditioned Premium Food Court in Kerala where 80 people can sit and eat at the same time, air conditioned hall where 200 people can hold trainings and meetings at the same time, mini conference hall, reading room and internet cafe etc with 24 hour service. A special package is also available for bulk bookings.
 
32 Kudumbashree women have already been provided direct employment in the areas of Manager, Accountant and Housekeeping Unit at the Urban Livelihood Centre and 21 women have already been provided employment through the Municipality's Multilevel Car Parking Complex taken over by the Urban Livelihood Centre and services in the areas of housekeeping and security in the Apartment Complex under Krishna Gardens Flat Owners Association.
 
The Tourist Facilitation Centre was inaugurated by Shri. N.K Akbar, MLA, Guruvayoor Constituency during a function organized on 24 May 2023. Shri. M. Krishnadas, Chairman, Guruvayoor Municipality presided over the function. Shri. Jahamgeer. S, Programme Officer, Kudumbashree conveyed his greetings and expressed his gratitude to Municipality for the excellent treatment given to Kudumbashree.

National Seminar on 'Development of Creativity and Women Empowerment' organized in connection with Arangu 2023 Kudumbashree State Arts Festival

A National Seminar was organized on 'Development of Creativity and Women Empowerment'  in connection with Arangu 2023 Kudumbashree State Arts Festival at Hotel Dass Continental, Thrissur on 30 May 2023. Shri. M.K. Varghese, Mayor, Thrissur Corporation officially inaugurated the seminar. Ms. Latha Chandran, Vice President, District Panchayath, presided over the function. 
 
Dr. Monisha U, District Programme Manager, Kudumbashree Thrissur District Mission delivered the introductory lecture of the seminar. Dr M.A Sudheer, (Professor, Tamil Nadu Gandhigram Rural University) delivered the keynote address. Ms Deepa Nishanth, Dr. Rachitha Ravi, Dr. Sajitha Mathil presented papers in the Plenary Session chaired by Dr. M.A Sudheer. Following that Ms. Sudha K.P, Ms. Bindu, Ms. Shobana Thankappan, Ms. Jasmi Shameer and Ms. Aishabi, NHG members from various taluks of Thrissur shared their experiences of participating in 'Arangu' in the past. Dr. K.S Vasudevan summarized these experiences and spoke.
 
Dr. B. Sreejith presided over the next session. Dr Chinchu, Ms. Ashwini Ashok, Ms. Ramadevi M.V, Dr. Usha Devi, Ms. Reshmi Shemir, Ms. Divya, Ms. Savithri. V.L, Ms Bushara, Mr. Babu, Mr. Sam John, Ms. Sneha and Mr. Deepak Kumar presented the papers. Discussions were also held on this. Research students and social workers also became part of the discussion.

Sreejith gave the keynote presentation. Ms. Sindhu V, State Programme Manager, Kudumbashree, Ms. Shobana Thankappan and Ms. Lalitha extended their greetings. Shri. Nirmal M.C, Assistant District Mission Coordinator, Kudumbashree Thrissur District Mission delivered the vote of thanks. At the closing ceremony, Dr. Kavitha presided over the function. Ms. Ramadevi and Ms. Ashwini Ashok were given awards for best theses. Ms. Sabira, Counsellor, Snehitha Dear delivered the vote of thanks.
