Kudumbashree served delicious food to the viewers who came to watch the 68th edition of Nehru Trophy Boat Race held at  Alappuzha on 4 September 2022.  In the food fair organized by two enterprise units, delicious dishes like tapioca, fish curry, shellfish, biryani, tea, coffee, Ilayada and samosas were served.
 
The food stalls  were set up at the entrance of the finishing point and at the entrance of Nehru Pavilion. Subhiksha Micro Enterprise unit from Alappuzha Municipal CDS and Anugraha micro enterprise unit from Muhamma Grama Panchayath CDS were the two units who served delicious food to those who came to watch Nehru Trophy Boat Race. The units were able to make a sales of Rs 1,42,650 including coupons through the food fair.

District Level Bala Parliament Sessions progressing in the state

District Level Bala Parliament Sessions are progressing in the state with strong debates, expert answers and topic based discussions.  The issues such as the travel woes faced by school students, child rights issues and the suffering and starvation of marginalized people are all topics of discussion at the Bala Parliament sessions being held in the districts. The opposition come up with whip-like questions and the administration avoids controversies with expert answers. The Bala Parliament held in various districts of the state during the past two weeks were literally eventful.
 
Bala Parliament is implemented to make Kudumbashree Balasabha members understand the importance and scope of democratic system. Currently, 3.95 lakh children are members of 28,000 Balasabha in the state. it also aims at creating awareness on various issues like parliamentary procedures, administrative systems, law making and constitutional value.
 
Bala Panchayaths are organized at the local body level, consisting of selected children who are members of Balasabha under each Local Self Government Institution. District Parliaments are held at the district level, consisting of one member elected from the Bala Panchayats of each district. Ten children (five girls and five boys each) selected from the district parliaments of each district participate in the State Level Bala parliament. The rights of children from different backgrounds and the challenges they face are discussed and documented through these mechanisms.
 
District Level Bala Parliaments have already been organized in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode,  Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts. The State-level Children's Parliament will be organized in Thiruvananthapuram during next month.

Kudumbashree Malappuram District Team completes the first distribution of the National Flags to the public

Kudumbashree Malappuram District Team completed first distribution of the National Flags to the public. As part of the 75th Independence Day celebrations, Kudumbashree is moving forward with the activities of preparing and distributing National Flags. Kudumbashree Malappuram district team has completed the first order and has delivered the same to the concerned.


Kudumbashree Malappuram District team completed the order of 432 flags placed by Canara Bank on 27 July 2022. Thannikkal Vasthra Boutique Unit took up this and prepared the flags. Malappuram district has received total order of 1.92 lakh flags so far. The production of the flags is progressing through 94 enterprise units.
 
Shri. Jafar K. Kakkooth, District Mission Coordinator, Kudumbashree Malappuram District Mission handed over the flags to Ms. Sreevidya, Regional Head Canara Bank during the function held at the Regional Office, Malappuram on 4 August 2022. Ms. Ramlath, Representative, Clothing Unit, Shri. K.T. Jiju, District Programme Manager, Kudumbashree and bank employees participated in the function.
 
 About 700 units of Kudumbashree are engaged in preparing and distributing flags to houses and institutions in the state as part of the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' (tricolor flags in every house) Campaign as part of the 75th Independence Day celebrations.

Kudumbashree Kasaragod District Mission team sets a new model through 'KANI'

Kudumbashree Kasaragod District Mission team is creating a silent revolution in the agriculture sector of Kasaragod district by cultivating vegetables and fruits as well as medicinal herbs and spices using hi-tech farming methods, through an innovative project called KANI (Kudumbashree for Agriculture New Intervention). The aim of KANI Project  is to ensure the availability of non-toxic fruits, vegetables, medicinal plants and spices in Kasaragod district through hi-tech farming and thereby improve the livelihood of Kudumbashree members. It will also generate income by promoting farm tourism. 
 
There are three sub projects under KANI Project namely, Vegetable Walk, Fruit Garden and Medicinal Herb-Spices Garden. The farming is done at the CDS level through Kudumbashree farming groups. KANI Project was started in Kasaragod district in 2021. The Vegetable Walk was organized then in a competitive manner with specific conditions. During the first year, focus was mainly on vegetable cultivation, whereas, fruits, medicinal herbs and spices are included in the project, this time.
 
As part of the Vegetable Walk, the cultivation is done as a single plot (minimum one crop per acre) on 3 to 15 acres of land. Cultivation will be done on at least one acre as part of Fruit Garden and on at least 50 cents as part of Medicinal Herb-Spices Garden. By March 2023, Model Farming Areas will also be established in these three areas as part of the project.
 
23 CDSs did cultivation as part of the Vegetable Walk and achieved a sales of Rs 8.26 crore during the  financial year 2021-22. Presently 9 CDSs are part of Fruit Garden and 15 CDS are part of Medicinal Herb-Spices Garden. A profit of Rs 25 lakhs  has been made during the last Ramzan season by cultivating 128 tons of watermelons on 25 acres as part of the Fruit Garden. Many crops like dragon fruit, rambutan, potato, sweet basil, aloe vera and cloves are being cultivated as part of the project. Kudumbashree Kasaragod District Mission team has indeed set a new model through 'KANI' Project.

Kudumbashree Kannur District Mission organizes Woman Film Fest

Kudumbashree Kannur District Mission has organized Woman Film Fest for Kudumbashree NHG members and Auxiliary Group Members. The Woman Film Fest was officially inaugurated by Ms. K. M Jamunarani, Municipal Chairperson, Thalasseri Municipality at Municipal Town Hall, Thalasseri, Kannur on 29 June 2022. 
 
The 'Woman' Film Fest' opens up an opportunity for thousands of NHG members to immerse themselves in the magical world of films that have created wonder in the hearts of people like Children of Heaven, Heidi, Village Rockstar and discover new levels of enjoyment. The Film Fest is organized in collaboration with the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy, Government of Kerala. The film screenings as part of the film festival are being held for a period of three months starting from July 2022 to September 2022 in 81 CDSs of Kannur district. The Film Festival also aims at introducing films that have gained national and international attention to the inner villages.
 
The cinema screening in a CDS is from 10 AM to 5 PM, on a fixed day. The exhibition space will be determined according to the availability of school and panchayat auditoriums. It will be coordinated in such a way that upto 150 people can watch the movie at a time. Films such as Basanti, Freedom Fight, The Great Indian Kitchen, Manhole, Ottamuri Velicham and Ozhimuri will be screened at the festival. All NHG members and auxiliary group members can be a part of the film festival organized under the leadership of the CDS.

Kudumbashree excels at Mussoorie

Kudumbashree becomes a star in the marketing fair held at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) in Mussoorie. About sixteen products including Kerala sarees, dhotis and handicrafts were brought by Kudumbashree for sale at the fair organized at the IAS Academy from 26-27June 2022.

The Kudumbashree stall at the fair was run by Ms. Bhagirathi, Kudumbashree Nutrimix entrepreneur from Palakkad District and Ms. Shari Hari, Ms. Vineetha, Micro Enterprise Consultants (MECs) who are part of the Startup Village Entrepreneurship Program (SVEP) being implemented by Kudumbashree in the Kodakara block of Thrissur district and Ms. Shyama Suresh, Entrepreneur. Sales of Rs 48,070 was recorded from the two-day event.

In addition to their participation in the marketing fair, they also interacted with the civil service trainees on the activities including enterprise formation of Kudumbashree focusing on NHGs (Neighborhood Groups). The products of the entrepreneurs from Thrissur and Palakkad districts were made available at the fair.

Career Guidance Workshop organized at Attappady

A Career Guidance Workshop was organized at Attappady for the tribal students who have written and passed the tenth and higher secondary examinations in the year 2022, at the Conference Hall, KILA, Agali on 22 June 2022. The Workshop was organized as part of the Attappady Comprehensive Tribal Development and Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group Development Project, in association with the Chittoor Career Development Centre under the Employment Exchange.

560 people participated in the workshop which was organized with the objective of giving a clear direction to the children of the Scheduled Tribes community for higher education and job opportunities. The team guided by Ms. Hema, Employment Officer and Centre Manager, Chittoor Career Development Centre, led the classes. Mr. V.S. Muhammad Ibrahim, Former Director, Backward Classes Welfare Department, Government of Kerala explained about the possibilities of higher education to the children.

The workshop explained the various courses that students can choose from after tenth and higher secondary classes and the job opportunities of these courses. Animators, Tribal Promoters and Bridge Course teachers collected information from students through the Kudumbashree Panchayat Committees in Attappady. Mr. B.S. Manoj, Assistant Project Officer, Attappady Comprehensive Tribal Development and Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group Development Project presided over the function.

Kochi Metro turns 'Five'; Proud Achievement for Kudumbashree

As Kochi Metro turns 'five', it is a proud achievement for Kudumbashree as well. 17June 2022 marked the fifth anniversary of the launch of the Kochi Metro service. The Kochi Metro service was launched five years before on 17 June 2017 with an unprecedented achievement, as it has the reputation of being the largest crew of women to be employed by any metro. Kudumbashree was also responsible for that achievement.
 
Kudumbashree NHG members or Kudumbashree family members have been performing their duties of ticketing, customer facilitation, housekeeping and gardening in the best possible manner for the last five years at Kochi Metro. It has also been able to provide various employment opportunities for transgender people as well. The activities of Kochi Metro are coordinated through Kudumbashree Facility Management Centre. At present 613 persons are doing various jobs in Kochi Metro through Kudumbashree Facility Management Centre. 9 of them belong to the transgender community. There are 14 male members of the Kudumbashree family working in the multi-task services sector.
 
Kudumbashree is proud of the successful convergence made with the Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL), which has become a milestone in the history of Kudumbashree itself. Kudumbashree members and family members took this opportunity wholeheartedly. Kudumbashree is grateful to the State Government and KMRL for giving  such a great opportunity for Kudumbashree NHG members and their family members.

Kudumbashree's 'Gothrashree' Tribal Cafeteria becomes the focal point of 'Ente Ooru' Tribal Heritage Village

Kudumbashree's 'Gothrashree' Tribal Cafeteria has become the focal point of 'Ente Ooru' Tribal Heritage Village, set up by the State Government at Pookode in Wayanad to give tourists a first-hand experience of tribal culture. The Heritage Village Project aims at introducing the unique heritage, way of life, rituals and arts of the tribal people of the district to the outside world and thereby provide them with a better livelihood. The Heritage Village is set on 25 acres of land in Kunnathidavaka village of Vythiri taluk.

Kudumbashree 'Gothrashree Cafeteria' is run by a group of specially trained tribal youth. There are 12 people in the group, including a young woman. Along with the unique dishes of Wayanad, meals, Vanasundari Special Chicken, various leafy vegetable curries, Puzhukku (dish made of boiled / steamed root vegetables flavored with seasoned coconut paste), Kumbalappam (steamed cone cake) etc are available at the Gothrashree Cafeteria. And in ten days, the Gothrashree entrepreneurs have earned an income of Rs 2.5 lakhs.

In addition to the 'Gothrashree' Cafeteria, there are three other Kudumbashree enterprises in the Heritage Village viz., Gothrashree Agricultural Nursery, Gothrashree Medicinal Nursery, and Gothrashree Food Processing Unit, which manufactures and markets various products such as spices, pickles and coffee powder.

Meghalaya Delegation visits Kudumbashree National Resource Organisation

Meghalaya Delegation had visited Kudumbashree National Resource Organisation (NRO) on 10 June 2022. A team led by Mr. Ram Kumar S. IAS, Mission Director, National Health Mission, Government of Meghalaya visited Kudumbashree NRO office to learn about the interventions of Kudumbashree in the health sector of Kerala. The team was accompanied by officials from NHM and Meghalaya State Rural Livelihood Society (MSRLS).

Smt. P.I. Sreevidya IAS, Executive Director, Kudumbashree had made a presentation to the team about the involvement of Kudumbashree community structure in the Amrutham Nutrimix- the food supplement prepared by the community for children of the age group of 6 months to 3 years, supplied through Anganwadi in convergence with ICDS (Integrated Child Development Scheme), Santhwanam – the health intervention of Kudumbashree to complement the health services of Government of Kerala, and the Ward level health and sanitation committees in the Gram Panchayats. Kudumbashree also offered Meghalaya the needed support in similar community-led interventions using the National Rural Livelihood Mission- Self Help Group (NRLM-SHG) network in the area of health and nutrition. Kudumbashree already has a partnership with Meghalaya for implementing the PRI-CBO (Panchayati Raj Institutions- Community Based Organisations) Convergence project.

The presentation had also covered the work undertaken by Kudumbashree NRO along with Meghalaya SRLM in conducting health camps, activating the Anganwadi level monitoring & support committee and also the initiatives in setting up nutri gardens in Meghalaya. After the meeting, the Meghalaya Delegation made a two day field visit at Kollam and Ernakulam field districts.
