Excellence in NULM project implementation: Kerala becomes the first state to get recognition in SPARK Ranking 7 times in a row; Award for KAASS Team as well

Kerala makes outstanding performance in NULM project implementation. Kerala has again been recognized at the national level for its excellent implementation of the centrally sponsored programme Deen Dayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Urban Livelihood Mission (DAY-NULM) in the state. Through Kudumbashree Kerala became the first state to get recognition in SPARK Ranking 7 times in a row.  Kerala has been ranked first in the 2023-24 'SPARK' (Systematic Progressive Analytical Real Time Ranking) ranking for states implementing the scheme. With this, Kerala became the only state to win the SPARK Award seven times consecutively.  Kudumbashree is the nodal agency for implementing the NULM project i Kerala.
Kudumbashree Accounting and Auditing Service Society (KAASS) has got the second position in the Best Development Partner category.
 
Shri. Manohar Lal Khattar, Union Minister of Housing, Urban Affairs and Energy presented the Spark Award to Dr. Sharmila Mary Joseph IAS, Principal Secretary, Department of Local Self-Government, Government of Kerala, Ms. Beena E, Ms. Meghna S, State Programme Manager, Kudumbashree during the function held at India Habitat Centre, Delhi on 18 July 2024. 
The Best Development Partner Category Award was received from the Minister by Ms. Soniya James, Ms. Shiji Mather, KAASS Team Representatives and Ms. Beena, State Programme Manager, Kudumbashree. Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan bagged the Second and Third positions in the SPARK Ranking.
 
Kudumbashree has started implementing the NULM project in Kerala in collaboration with the Municipal Corporations since 2015 to improve the lives of the urban poor. Kerala had secured the Second Position in SPARK Ranking in the year 2022-23. Kerala has secured First Position in 2020-21 Financial Year, Second Position in 2021-22 and 2018-19 Financial Years and Third Position in 2019-20 and 2017-18 Financial Years.
 
SPARK Ranking is given on the basis of common criteria laid down by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs for timely completion of the scheme objectives as per the NULM Scheme.

Kudumbashree to launch Happiness Centres to make Kerala happy

Kudumbashree is preparing to make every family in Kerala centres of happiness through 'Happiness Centres' based on the concept of 'Happy Kerala'. The aim is to set up Happiness Centres in 168 model CDSs in Kerala by 17 August 2024 in connection with FNHW (Food Nutrition Health and Wash) activities as part of the National Rural Livelihood Mission project being implemented by Kudumbashree.
 
Kudumbashree aims to make every family a centre of happiness by ensuring the overall well-being and upliftment of every individual and family in the society through Happiness Centres. With the implementation of this very innovative idea, Kerala will be able to advance in the happiness index and become a model for other states.
 
Activities are planned for the project to address the inadequacies faced by an individual or family in various areas such as equality, economic sustainability, environment, art, literature, sports, mental health, nutrition, hygiene and democratic values and lead them to a happy life. The project will be implemented in such a way that it will be helpful to every person of the society like children, youth, adults and the elderly.
 
A survey will be conducted focusing on the families in the model CDSs where happiness centres will be established and a detailed plan will be prepared to raise the happiness index of those families. On the basis of this project, a happiness index will be prepared according to the social situation of Kerala and the project activities will be started after conducting an evaluation under the leadership of experts in various fields.
 
Local Self Government Department will be the main partner in implementation of the project and Kudumbashree will converge with various departments like health, social justice, women and child development, agriculture, animal husbandry, dairy development, forest and other departments in the implementation of the project. It will also coordinate with various projects implemented by Kudumbashree.
 
A two-day workshop was also organized to conceptualize the project methodology and guidelines at Thiruvananthapuram on 20-21 June 2024. Group discussions were organized and brainstormed based on various areas such as equity, economic sustainability, environment, hygiene, art and literature, sports, mental health, nutrition, democratic values etc. The suggestions received in the workshop will be codified and the methodology and guidelines will be prepared.

Kambalam begins as a celebration in Attappady

Kambalam, a traditional festival marking the beginning of Panchakrishi, begins at Attappady in Palakkad. Kambalam is organized as a part of Attappady Tribal Comprehensive Development Project implemented in Attappady through Kudumbashree with the aim of making agriculture more popular. The first Kambalam of the year was held in Oothukuzhi under the leadership of Sholayur Panchayat Samiti on 18 June 2024.
 
The celebrations started at 11 AM. Seeds and working tools were brought to the farm with the accompaniment of traditional music and Bhumi Pooja and seed sowing were performed under the leadership of 'Mannookkaran'. More than 250 people including 'Ooru Mooppan', 'Bhandari', 'Kuduthala', Kudumbashree Ooru Samiti office bearers, Panchayat Samiti office bearers, farmers and NHG members became part of Kambalam.
 
Shri. B.S. Manoj, Assistant Program Officer, Kudumbashree Attappady Comprehensive Development Project   honored the Panchayat Samiti office bearers, Mannookkaran and farmers. Traditional music and dance were performed accompanied by musical instruments and traditional food was eaten. Attappady Tribal Comprehensive Development Project officials, Ms. Praja, Secretary, Panchayat Samiti, Ms. Selina Shanmugam, President, Panchayat Samiti and others were part of Kambalam. 
 
This year, as part of the Attappady Adivasi Comprehensive Development Project, it is targeted to cultivate millets (small grains) in 1000 acres. Apart from this, the activities for preparing five model farms each in Agali, Sholayur, Kurumba and Puthoor Panchayat Samitis are also in progress.

'Arangu 2024' Kudumbashree State Arts Festival came to an end showcasing the inherent talents of Kudumbashree NHG- Auxiliary Group members. Kasargod district came in First Place with 199 points. Kannur and Thrissur districts came in second and third place with 180 and 96 points respectively. Shri. M. B Rajesh, Minister, Local Self Government Department, Government of Kerala inaugurated the valedictory function at Panchayath Ground, Kalikkadav, Kasargod on 9 June 2024 via online. 
 
The Minister said that Kudumbashree aims not only at socio-economic and political strengthening but also at cultural empowerment. Through 'Arangu' Arts Festival, Kudumbashree envisages the cultural empowerment of Kudumbashree women. Special competitions were organized for the young ladies who are members of the Kudumbashree Auxiliary Groups. Along with this, the Kudumbashree Literary Festival has started since last year. Kudumbashree is growing as a complete empowering women's movement by uplifting women at all levels and providing a platform for them to shine and showcase their creative talents. This time, Arangu State Arts Festival takes place in a rural setting. The Arangu Festival held at Pilikode Grama Panchayat of Kasaragod will turn out to be an unforgettable experience for everyone. He added.
 
 
Kudumbashree has a proud operational history for over the past quarter of a century. The role played by Kudumbashree in the multifaceted empowerment of the women community in Kerala is inestimable.  Kudumbashree has become a powerful instrument of social, economic and political empowerment of the women community in Kerala. Actually Kudumbashree has made the biggest contribution in realizing the slogan of renaissance- from kitchen to the mainstream of society, during the last quarter of a century.  Today there are no areas where Kudumbashree has not reached. Kudumbashree has also entered the field of elderly care, one of the most important issues faced by Kerala today. Kudumbashree turns everything that touches into 'gold'. This movement is a model for India as a whole. Kudumbashree's fame has reached outside India as well. The Minister said.

Kudumbashree Arts Festival- 'Arangu 2024' kickstarted at Kasaragod

Kudumbashree's  State Art Festival 'Arangu 2024' has been kickstarted at Pilikode Panchayath of Kasaragod. Shri. A.N Shamseer, Speaker, Kerala Legislative Assembly inaugurated the festival at Panchayath Ground, Kalikkadav, Pilikode, Kasaragod on 7 June 2024. The Speaker said that Kudumbashree has grown to a level where we can't deny its existence. That is the proof of the growth that Kudumbashree has attained. It may be through the strength women attained through Kudumbashree, it was able to bring 50% reservations for women in Local Self Government Institutions. Women of Kerala proclaimed their leadership through Kudumbashree.

Kudumbashree has literally become a part of our lives. He said. He also added that Kudumbashree has played a key role in making the women of Kerala become independent and live without the support of anyone. That's the strength of women empowerment. Arangu 2024 is the Arts Festival of Kudumbashree women. Through this, Kudumbashree is giving the members an opportunity to showcase their talents. He added. He also wished the Kudumbashree NHG-Auxiliary Group members to have a health competition.

Shri. M. Rajagopalan, MLA presided over the function. Shri E. Chandrasekharan, MLA gave away the Awards for the Best Logo and Best Tagline. Shri. Hareesh Udayagiri received the award for the best logo and Shri. Harikrishnan M, received the award for the best tagline. The Award for the best logo consisted of Memento and Cash Prize of Rs 25,000 and the award for the best tagline consisted of Memento and Cash Prize of Rs 10,000.

The Art festival is organized by Kudumbashree Mission in association with the Local Self Government Department. About 5000 Kudumbashree women took part in the procession organized prior to the inaugural function. The procession was started from the premises of GUP School, Chandera. The three day Art Festival will take place at the 14 venues and 3500 Kudumbashree members will participate in the Arangu State Arts Festival. The competitions are held in two categories viz., NHG Category and Auxiliary Group Category.

The Art Festival is an opportunity for the women to present their artistic talents before the society.  Shri. 16 Tribal Kudumbashree members visits Rashtrapati Bhavan

16 Kudumbashree NHG members from Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Community visited Rashtrapati Bhavan and Amrit Udyan on 8 March 2024, International Women's Day. Their visit to Delhi was as part of the opening of Amrit Udyan and Rashtrapati Bhavan to the public. As part of it, approval was given for women self-help groups in all states and Union Territories of the country for visiting the same. 
 
Since last year, women belonging to Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Castes have been selected to visit Rashtrapati Bhavan and Amrit Udyan under the leadership of the National Rural Livelihood Mission. On that day, Kudumbashree had taken 15 women of the CDS leadership to visit Delhi. This year, 15 people from Scheduled Tribes and one from Scheduled Castes were selected for the visit. The team reached Delhi on 7 March 2024 and visited Qutab Minar, Red Fort, Rajghat, India Gate, Birla Mandir and Kerala Bhavan.

LSGD Minister announces One Day Work From Home for Kudumbashree Staff in the time of Menstruation during the Women's Day Celebrations of Kudumbashree

Shri. M. B Rajesh, Minister, Local Self Government Department and Excise Department, Government of Kerala announced one day Work From Home for Kudumbashree Staff in the time of Menstruation. He was inaugurating the Women's Day Celebrations of Kudumbashree during the function held at Mount Carmel Convention Centre, Vazhuthacaud, Thiruvananthapuram on 8 March 2024.


The Minister said that Kudumbashree should be able to rewrite the verdict of social life like they rewrote the fate of the lives of women. Kudumbashree, which was started as a poverty eradication mission has now transformed as an important means of empowerment during these years. Kudumbashree has played an unparalleled role in the social, financial and political empowerment of women in Kerala. Kudumbashree has always been keen in ensuring the security of women in the society. Kudumbashree has rendered commendable service in ensuring women's safety and gender equality in the social sphere of Kerala.  He added. The Minister also launched the 'Gender Point Person' Concept of Kudumbashree.  

The campaign theme for this year's Women's Day is 'Inspire Inclusion.' Nowadays exclusion, marginalization an discrimination is ongoing in the name of gender, religion, caste,  language etc nationally and internationally. And this theme is relevant in the current social scenario. The Minister added.  

Shri. Jafar Malik IAS, Executive Director, Kudumbashree welcomed the gathering. Dr. Sharmila Mary Joseph IAS, Principal Secretary, Local Self Government Department, Government of Kerala presided over the function.  She also launched the 'Quick Serve' the professional team for various services in urban areas and launched the logo of 'Quick Serve' and also distributed the ID cards for the 'Quick Serve' Executives.  Dr T K Anandi, Former Gender Advisor to Government of Kerala distributed the ID cards to the Gender Point Persons.

The CDS Chairpersons along with the dignitaries launched the 14 Rachna Memoir Books from the districts. A Seminar was held on the topic- 'Interventions and challenges related to gender-based violence' by the representatives of various departments.  A talk on 'Mental Health – Emerging Trends, Challenges and Solutions' was done by Dr. Arun B Nair, Mental Health Expert, Government Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram.

An art performance by Rangashree members and Auxiliary Group Members, Dheeram Karate Performance and experience sharing of the beneficiaries of Snehitha Gender Help Desk, Gender Resource Centre was also held prior to the inaugural function.

Kudumbashree bags State 'Vanita Ratnam' Award

Kudumbashree bagged the  'Vanitha Ratnam' Award for the year 2023 by the State Government. This recognition of the Department of Women and Child Development is in consideration of the excellent service of Kudumbashree in the field of women empowerment. Kudumbashree has given immeasurable contributions to the social and economic upliftment of women through its activities in the last 25 years.

Kudumbashree Technoworld Third IT Team bags National Award

Technoworld Third team, Kudumbashree IT unit from Kozhikode district of Kerala has won the Award for the Best Women Entrepreneur of the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. The team under the leadership of Ms. K. Vijaya, President received the award on behalf of the Technoworld Third IT Unit.
 
Technoworld, the only enterprise from Kerala to have received this honor, operates under the Kozhikode Corporation. Started by five women in March 2004, this IT unit has provided livelihood opportunity to 50 women permanently and more than 1500 women temporarily.
  
In addition to directly operating the data entry and printing press, Kozhikode Corporation Kiosk, Motor Vehicle Department e-Seva Kendra and various hospital kiosks are also operated through the unit. Also there are training and plan facilitation centers. Technoworld is also a recognized agency of the government in the field of data entry and printing.

Sanjeevani unit of Malappuram bags State Government's Entrepreneurship Award

'Sanjeevani' unit of Malappuram district of Kerala won the Entrepreneurship Award constituted by the Government of Kerala. The unit located in Thazhekkad panchayat won the Award for the Best Women Enterprise in Manufacturing Sector in the Micro, Small and Medium Entrepreneur Awards of the Industries Department. They unit members received the award from Shri. P. Rajeeve, Minister for Law, Industries and Coir, Government of Kerala  during the function held at Thiruvananthapuram on 28 February 2024.
 
They produce products such as Amrutham Nutrimix,  nutritional product for pregnant-lactating mothers, teenagers, elderly, cakes and biscuits. They are bringing the products to the market under the name brand name 'Jeevas'. This enterprise which was started in 2006 is run under the leadership of Ms. P. Ummusalma, Unit Manager, Ms. Mariyamma George, Ms. M. Susheela, Ms. M. Vijayashree, Ms. M. Kamalam, Ms. M. Fathima, Ms. P. Ambika, Ms. M Shobha, Ms. Sheebu and Ms. Ajeesha.
