'Millet Cafe' and 'Vaiga' arrange livelihood opportunities at Attappady

Kudumbashree has launched 'Millet Cafe' and 'Vaiga', two agro-livelihood enterprises in Hill Value brand as part of  the Attappady Comprehensive Tribal Development and Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group Development Project. Millet Cafe was started aiming at encouraging the usage and cultivation of millets and make good food available in the local level. The Millet Cafe located at Puthur is functioning under the leadership of Reshi, Lakshmi Vellinkiri and Lakshmi Balan of Chithrashalabham Farming Group. Food items such as Ragi Ada, Puttu, Chama Payasam, Chama Biriyani, Varagu Dosa etc is available here. 
 
'Vaiga' Enterprise is launched under the leadership of Agali Panchayath Samithi. This enterprise produces Dosa batter and different Masala powders. This enterprise is run by the entrepreneurs named Chelli, Lakshmi Nanchan, Pappa Kakki, Asha and Radha. These two enterprises are started under  the 'Hill Value', the agro product brand of Kudumbashree. Millet Cafe is the 13th enterprise started in Hill Value Brand in the agricultural sector. 
 
4606 farmers are cultivating various crops through 1037 Joint Liability Groups (JLGs) as part of Kudumbashree in Attappady.  They are cultivating various millets such as Ragi, Little Millet (Chama), Corn, Kodo Millet (Varagu), Foxtail Millet (Thina) and  
Barnyard Millet (Kuthira Vali) in 606.5 acres.

Kudumbashree's 'Rasoyi'- Local Food Shop starts functioning at NCC Group Headquarters in Kozhikode

Kudumbashree's Local Food Shop has started functioning at the National Cadet Core (NCC) Group Headquarters in Kozhikode on 24 February 2022. Shri. E. Govind, Commander Brigadier, NCC Group Headquarters officially inaugurated the food shop. It is notable that Kudumbashree received such an opportunity in a Defensive Service Institution. 
 
The Food Shop would be run by the five members of 'Rasoyi', the enterprise that function under Kozhikode Corporation North CDS. The entrepreneurs need not give rent for the building.  Plates, utensils and stove etc were given to the entrepreneurs as free of cost. The groceries needed to the food shop could be brought from the NCC Canteen at lower rates. One month time is also given for paying the cost of the groceries bought. The Food Shop need not give the food to the staff at lower rates. They will also regularly receive big orders to prepare food for the children and others who come for attending NCC camps. 
 
Shri. P. Divakaran, Welfare Committee Chairman, Kozhikode Corporation presided over the function. Shri. T. K Prakashan, Kudumbashree Project Officer, Smt. Yamuna, Vice Chairperson, Kudumbashree North CDS,  Smt. Bincy E.K, Shri. Nikhil Chandran and Shri. Jaison T.J, City Mission Managers, NULM also took part in the function.

DDU-GKY beneficiaries successfully complete Airline Customer Service Executive Course and secure placements

A few DDU-GKY beneficiaries have successfully completed the Airline Customer Service Executive Course and had secured placements as part of the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDUGKY), the free skill training programme of Central-State Governments is being implemented in Kerala through Kudumbashree.  
 
The 70 students who have completed the course in two batches through the Love Green Association, the Project Implementing Agency (PIA) of Kudumbashree's DDU-GKY Project headquartered at Kalpetta of Wayanad district of Kerala had achieved success by scoring well at the Assessment of the  Aerospace and Aviation Sector Skill Council (AASSC). Out of them, 44 students had secured placements as well. They had secured placements at Air India SATS, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kochi Airports, Ground Globe India, SpeedWings Services in various posts such as Cargo, Ramp, Security Agent etc. 
 
Free skill training as part of DDUGKY is extended to the rural youth between 18 and 35 years of age. The age limit for women, Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups and the disabled are 45 years. Training can be availed in various sectors such as Tourism and Hospitality, Electronics, Health Care, Capital, Logistics etc. Those who are interested to know more about the DDU-GKY courses, may contact the respective Kudumbashree District Mission offices.

National Saras Mela 2022- Invites logo

Kudumbashree is inviting logo for the Saras Mela 2022, the national level product marketing fair, which is proposed to be held under the leadership of Kudumbashree, at Thiruvananthapuram from 28 March 2022 till 10 April 2022. Rs 5000  will be given as cash prize for the selected logo.
 
The logo should reflect the social and cultural originality of Thiruvananthapuram and the intervention of Kudumbashree in the women empowerment sector. The logos are to be sent to the email id- tvmsaras2022@gmail.com. 28 February 2022 is the last date for sending the logos. The original work file of the logo should be sent on demand. Kudumbashree would hold the full authority to use the logo.
 
The Saras Fair would be held at Palace Ground, Kanakakunnu, Thiruvananthapuram.  The Saras Fairs are organized jointly by the Central- State Governments as part of the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM), where the products of the entrepreneurs across the country is brought together for marketing. In addition to that 'India Food Court' would also be arranged as part of the Fair, where the cuisines from various states would be available. Opportunity to avail free skill training as part of Jal Jeevan Mission

Kudumbashree is extending the opportunity to avail free skill training as part of Jal Jeevan Mission. Jal Jeevan Mission is the project being implemented to provide safe and adequate drinking water through individual household tap connections by 2024 to all households in rural areas. Now the opportunity of availing free skill training is being extended to Kudumbashree members or their family members to become part of the Jal Jeevan Mission activities. 
 
The skill training is being extended by association with the State Water Authority and Kerala Academy for Skill Excellence (KASE). The skill training will be extended based on a clear syllabus which would equip them to take up the work in four sectors such as plumber, pipe fitter, mason and electrician works. It is envisaged to extend 10 days skill training to about 1000 persons. The training centres would be Kerala Academy for Skill Excellence Centres and Government ITIs.  The Water Authority will give Special License to those who have successfully completed the training.  Those who successfully complete the training will get the opportunity to give drinking water pipe connection, construction activities, renovation works and maintenance and repair works as part of Jal Jeevan Mission. Those Kudumbashree members who are interested in becoming part of the free skill training being extended as part of Jal Jeevan Mission may contact the respective CDSs or District Mission offices. 
 
The members of the Multi Task Team of Kudumbashree (ARISE) had taken up and implemented  various works such as giving pipe connection at Wayanad, Kasaragod, Kottayam, Idukki and Thrissur districts as part of the Jal Jeevan Mission. Kudumbashree had also received the opportunity to function as the Implementing Support Agency that extends help the Project Implementing Agencies of Jal Jeevan Mission at 258 panchayaths. 162 persons from 10 districts were extended one week long first phase training.

Houses constructed by Kudumbashree Women Construction Groups for ST Families of Aralam Farm handed over to the beneficiaries

The houses built by Kudumbashree Women Construction Groups for Scheduled Tribe Families of Aralam Panchayath of Kannur district of Kerala were handed over to the beneficiaries on 27 January 2022. The houses are built at Block 9, Aralam Farm, Kannur. Dr. V Sivadasan, MP, Kannur handed over the keys of the three houses built at Aralam Farm to the beneficiaries. Adv. Binoy Kurian, Vice President, District Panchayat, Kannur was the Chief Guest and Shri. K.P Rajesh, President, Aralam Grama Panchayath presided over the function. Smt. Lakshmi Amma, Smt. Bindu and Smt. Santha are the beneficiaries who received the keys of their new houses.

These are the first three houses that are being built for the homeless Scheduled Tribe families in Aralam Panchayath under the leadership of Kudumbashree Women Construction Groups. The houses were constructed jointly two Kudumbashree Women Construction groups in the district namely Jwala Construction Group and Kanal Construction Group. Smt. Cicily Joseph (President), Smt. Nisha Jayaprakash (Secretary), Smt. Bindu Shibin, Smt. Vimala Chandran, Smt. Kumari Subramanian, Smt. Nazeema Rasheed and Smt. Pathumma N.M are the members of the Jwala Construction Group. Whereas, Smt. Aswathy Babu (President), Smt. Pankajakshy K (Secretary), Smt. Safira, Smt. Leela K, Smt. Shaija, Smt. Sreeja, Smt. Sefiya, Smt. Sakeena and Smt. Shahina are the members of the Kanal Construction Group. The houses were completed under the full time supervision of Ms. Nithisha, an M Tech Graduate in Structural Engineering, who is a member of a Kudumbashree family.

Kudumbashree had took up the construction of the houses that are included in the project of Scheduled Tribes Department, Government of Kerala. The average area of the houses are 560 - 580 sqft. Within the next 6 months, construction of 10 more houses would be completed at Aralam. Rs 6 lakhs is the unit cost. Work order has been received for completing the construction of 20 houses. Through this, Kudumbashree aimed at saving the homeless ST families at Aralam from the exploitation of the middlemen in the construction sector. Though it was a tedious task, Kudumbashree was able to achieve the trust of the tribal people. Kudumbashree was able to equip the tribal people to ask questions back to such exploiters. Through such convergence, Kudumbashree Kannur District Mission had succeeded in arranging livelihood for the Women Construction Groups in the district.

Online Awareness programme Series on Covid-19 starts

Amidst the rise of Covid-19 cases in the state, an online awareness class series on Covid-19 has been started under the leadership of Kudumbashree associating with the Indian Medical Association (IMA) and UNICEF, for Kudumbashree members and the general public. The first session of the series was held on 21 January 2022. Dr. Samuel Koshy, State President, IMA, Kerala State Branch inaugurated the programme. The topic dealt on the first of the series was 'From Delta till Omicron'. Dr. Soniya Suresh, Consultant Physician, VSM Hospital, Mavelikkara, Alappuzha was the faculty who dealt with the session.

The classes were live streamed through the Facebook pages and YouTube channels of KILA and Kudumbashree. The viewers may also ask their doubts and get it clarified from the experts themselves. Kudumbashree and IMA had also conducted online series during the second wave of the spread of covid-19 pandemic. Those previous classes are also available in these pages and channels. The next session of the series will be held on next friday.

It is expected that these awareness classes about covid, organized with best convergence and partnership would reach out to all people in Kerala and it would help them in the treatments of covid patients without getting panicked and will be of great help to all. The programme is ongoing receiving good responses from among the public.

Dr. Joseph Benaven delivered the welcome speech. Dr. A. V Jayakrishnan, Secretary, IMA, gave an introduction to the project. Dr. Joy Elamon, Director, Kerala Institute of Local Administration (KILA) and Ms. Sindhu, State Programme Manager, Kudumbashree paid their felicitations. Dr. R. C Sreekumar, Chairman, IMA Committee in Medical Education was the moderator of the programme.

As part of the Covid Prevention Activities, Online Training is also being organized for Rapid Response Team (RRT) and Ward Committee Members are also being held under the leadership of Local Self Government Department, Health and Family Welfare Department, Women and Child Development Department, Kudumbashree and KILA.

Kudumbashree produces online poster series on the home treatment of Covid-19

Kudumbashree Mission has been publishing online poster series on the home treatment of covid-19. The posters are shared through the various social media handles of Kudumbashree. It deals with the points that should be taken care of during the home treatment of covid-19. The posters were shared upto the bottom level of the three tier system of Kudumbashree, all across the state. The Kudumbashree members and the public are sharing the posters and are taking the same to maximum number of people.

The topics dealt include notes to covid-19 patients, the points the care takers should note while wearing the masks, notes to the caretakers on cleaning their hands, the points caretakers should note if they have came in contact with the covid-19 patient, notes on home treatment of covid-19 patients, notes to the asymptomatic covid-19 patients, when should the covid-19 patients should seek medical help, when should the covid-19 patients put an end to their home quarantine.

Kudumbashree had also been preparing various posters in connection with the Covid Prevention Campaign and also as per the guidelines issued by the Executive Director to spread awareness to the ADSs and CDSs on the background of the Kudumbashree elections which are proceeding as the covid cases are rising in the state.

Success Story of Kudumbashree Entrepreneur Rajitha to 'Impact Forum Film Festival'

The short film made on the success story of  Rajitha, a Kudumbashree Entrepreneur from Ernakulam has been officially selected to the 'Impact Forum Film Festival', which is being organized with the support of United Nations and Investment News. Ms. Rajitha Mani had started her enterprise as part of the Startup Village Entrepreneurship Programme (SVEP) being implemented in Kerala through Kudumbashree and had attained success in life.

 
Through SVEP, assistance and financial support is extended to start maximum enterprises in the 'non-farm' sector to encourage entrepreneurship development in the rural sector. Kudumbashree had prepared short films depicting the lessons learnt from the project implementation,  work experience and the stories of entrepreneurs who had overcome the hurdles and attained success. One of these short films, named ' Pioneers of Change- Keerthi Foods' is now selected to the Impact Forum Film Festival.

Rajitha Mani was a common homemaker, who used to find livelihood by selling homemade pickles in her neighborhood. Through 'Keerthi Foods', the SVEP Enterprise, she had grown into an entrepreneur who industrially produces food products. Keerthi Foods produces various types of snacks, grain flours and spices. The short film is produced in association with Traveling Tripod Films.

Film produced by Kudumbashree Kottayam District Mission gets selected to the Competition Section of 5th National Rural Development Film Festival

'Munne', the film produced by Kudumbashree Kottayam District Mission gets selected to the Competition Section of 5th National Rural Development Film Festival. The Film Festival which is based in rural development activities is organized by National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (NIRDPR). Kudumbashree State Mission had directed all the District Missions to do the video documentation of the best practices from the districts. In this regard, Kottayam District team decided to make a short film that depicts the changes Kudumbashree has made in the lives of women. Later, they identified the experts in the respective sectors and made 'Munne'.
 
84 films were received in the film festival in the fiction and non fiction sections. From among them, 44 films including 'Munne', the film produced by Kudumbashree Kottayam District Mission was selected to the Competition Section. The film had competed in the Fiction section. The Film Festival was held at NIRDPR Campus at Hyderabad on 26 November 2021. The film was directed by Mr. Pradeep Nair, who had won several awards in National and State levels. The cast of 'Munne' include Ms. Radhamani Prasad, Ms. Jyothi, Ms. Maya, Ms. Anjima Sibu, Ms. Geetha, Ms. Thankamma, Ms. Raji, Ms. Ponnamma, artists of 'Rangashree', the theatre group of Kudumbashree women and Mr. Gireesh Champakulam, Mr. Madhu G, Mr. Sharshad M.P, Mr. Nandu, Mr. Vasudev and Ms. Sheela Kuttompuram.
